Ah, I get it. Hmm, but given Gandalf could use his magic to turn any of Wolverine's blades or attacks back onto him, they're not that good. Yes, I know Wolverine has an Adamantium skeleton and blades do bugger all damage, I'm just saying magic is more powerful in this instance.
It was a loooooooong discussion at work!

sntnl has just bought FF7, I'm sure I will echo your sentiments soon enough!

lol! Basically you have massive healing ability (and yes, big pointy blades...) for Wolverine, and magic for Gandalf (who incidentally, came back from the dead).
sntnl reckons Gandalf, and as he is both a comics nerd and a LOTR nerd he is both unbiased and knowledgeable. :)

Ahhh, I see. :) Magic wins hands down, lol. I once made a poll for the Snape group I moderate/part own...in a battle between Darth Vader and Severus Snape...who would win?

At first I thought Snape would, but it's sort of hard to speak magic words when you can't breathe (one of Vader's nasty things to do to people)...on the other hand, Snape can do silent magic (thinking the words), so I do wonder who would win. I think Snape might, especially if he decided to avada Vader. :) On the other other hand *beats head against wall* Snape's magic might bounce off of Vader's armour.

This had me and sntnl chatting for a bit. We think the winner would be the one who had the strongest will. We had an image of Vader throwing his lightsabre at Snape (aiming with the force), but then Snape using his magic to hold it and turn it on Vader. We had the image of the two of them in a standoff, with a lightsabre hovering between them, being pushed from both sides...

I think davegotsu should be consulted on this as he's read LotR and is a big Xmen fan.
We had a discussion about Smaug vs Puff the magic dragon. At first you think Smaug would just step on Puff, however Puff just needs to blow out some especially potent smoke and Smaug will be wandering around dazed and with the munchies. It turned into a discussion about what a stoned dragon would be like.

I was tempted to make this poll public, I think I will do now! Point him this way!
Yeah, sntnl is the same. Bless.
Soned dragons? Hmmm, Well, as Puff the Magic Dragon lived by the sea, if he was fighting there, he could cause a stoned Smaug to fall in the sea and drown? Drowning is, incidentally, the way in which we think Gandalf would kill Wolverine.

Hmm possibly however, based entirely on the films, Gandalf seems to be more like a glorified torch. He could beam at Wolverine and dazzle him, maybe then he could push him in the sea. Problem is they both have considerable recuperative powers.
The theory was that when Smaug got stoned he wouldn't really wanna fignt anymore. He'd just sit there, look down and say "Wow! I'm like sooo scaly. Weird!" Then he probably wander off vaguely to look for snacks and thereby destroy the farm-based economy of a small country.

...or he'd just eat Cadbury World! That's the only place with enough Creme Eggs! (I've never done drugs, but mates at college were saying that's what they'd been stocking up on).

When was drowning tried? I know even sending him into space didn't kill him, so I'm taking it any lung-based death is out? Gandalf could, however do what Magneto did and pull out Wolverine's skeleton, then deliver a fatal blow somehow. I was basing this fight at a distance, as I appreciate big pointy blades would do serious damage.
The demi-god theory is also one I was basing this fight on. Wolverine may have survived under a glacier by eating his own arm, but to the best of my knowledge (and sntnl's superior knowledge) he's never come back from the dead.
Oh, and I don't mind people joining in, I was hoping for a lively debate :)

LOL! You're mad you are! :P
Sadly this poll will not cause any mutation on Wolverine. :)
I'm glad I'm getting a good response anyway, that's why I put it public- for people to point their friends this way (which has happened!)

There is a giant billboard on Pershore Road with Ian McKellen (Magneto not Gandalf) on one side and Hugh Jackman (complete with Big Pointy Blades) on the other side.
Its all steel grey and the middle says "Whose side are you on". Which is apparently the tagline for a new Marvel thingy (this is based on davegotsu's knowledge).
Their faces are like bigger than me!!

That'll probably be Xmen 3... sntnl has been talking about it (they have Kelsey Grammar as Beast! Inspired!).
*consults*
Yep, Xmen 3.

Oh yeah I know about Xmen 3 davegotsu downloaded the trailer and I'm planning to have it as a Sci-fi event, considering we've got nowt else on this term. :S
They had pictures of Kelsey Grammer in SFX and Empire, he seems generally amused by the whole blue thing. It is very cool :)

hey, i clicked on your journal from the ghibli community...
i voted for gandalf, because, c'mon, he's a WIZARD. all wolverine can do is heal quickly and slash people.

wolverine wins in a beauty contest, though. um, yum?

Re: hey, i clicked on your journal from the ghibli community...
Hello! Yes, that was mine and sntnl's argument precisely. I mean, Gandalf has come back from the dead once already. I suspect even a close range attack from Wolverine wouldn't be enough to kill Gandalf.
Wolverine is definately the better looking, but Beast remains my favourite X-Man :)

Just passin' through. Hope you don't mind. I couldn't resist.

Wolverine would be a stinkin' lawn chair before his claw pierced the back of his own hand.

Two words: Bal, and also, while I'm at it, rog. :)
